Sharing My Story
I am no one special. I claim no greatness. I am just a gay man who is also a Christian.
I am not out to prove a point or to persuade a change of opinion.
For anyone who is open to hear it, I like sharing my story of what it has been like to be gay and a Christian. From the self-realization of my sexual orientation while a student at a Christian college through the years of struggle as I tried not to be gay.
I will speak openly and honestly about the depression and thoughts of suicide and about ultimately believing I could no longer have God in my life.
I will tell you of the personal journey that brought me back to my faith and the assurance that God loves me as I am; which includes my sexuality.
I also will welcome any questions and will be honest in my answers.
I won't want to get into debates or arguments. Or theological discussions over interpretations of scriptures. There are others far more competent than I am to do that.
If your church is currently in dialogue about gay issues or would like to begin the discussion, I would consider it a privilege to come and speak and simply give you my perspective.
I also welcome the opportunities to speak to Sunday classes, Christian outreach ministries, Christian colleges and universities and, especially, to youth groups. It is the Christian teenagers, who realize they may be gay, that the church needs to reach out to the most. The suicide rate among gay teens (whether they are Christian or not) is alarming.
So, please feel free to Contact Me if you would like further information about opportunities to have me speak.
