The Problem.
It seems that any issue that has the word "gay" attached to it (be it rights, equality, marriage, Christians) is certain to create a chasm within the Christian community and with the gay community that, in turn, immediately creates an "us" versus "them" conflict so great that we completely ignore the second commandment given to us by Jesus; to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
A Solution?
Perhaps talking and listening to one another would be a place to begin.
I am not ignoring that an exchange of words has been going on for some time now between the gay community and the Christian community. But, to the gay community, all they can hear are words of hatred and judgment (justifiably or not). And, to the Christian community, all they can hear are words of an insistence of acceptance and accusations of being homophobic (again, justifiably or not).
So, what do I think I can bring into this conversation? Simply my story.
See Why Me.
